History
The Bosque Farms community was a government relief project set
up in the late 1930's. It was a subsidized operation of 42 tracts
populated by a number of dairy farm families. One of these families,
Mr. & Mr.s Gilford Lear, whose preschool-age son had been killed
in an accident, were strong promoters for a church. Their little boy
had always wanted a church close to his home. The Bosque Farms
Baptist Church grew from the desire of the Lear family and serveral
other families who united and began worship services in homes or the
local Bosque Farms school.
One November 28, 1943 the church's organizational charter was
drawn up. The first Sunday school and worship service of Bosque
Farms Baptist Church was held at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Gilford
Lear on December 5, 1943.
In June 1944, five acres of land were purchased with the assistance
of people outside the church membership. A part of the land was sold
later to provide money for a building. The first permanent building was
erected in 1945 on Highway 47 at what is now 1290 Bosque
Farms Blvd. By November 1, 1945, the membership was 65.
With the subsequent growth of the community, a need for expansion
was soon realized. In 1972 property south of the original acreage was
purchased and plans were made to build a new sanctuary. On
November 24, 1974, the first service was held in the new building at
1350 Bosque Farms Blvd. With God's help and the sale of the original
property at 1290, it was possible to erect this building debt free!
Today, due to growth and developement in Valencia County we
have completed a new worship center with additional classrooms,
an industrial kitchen and new fellowship hall.
